Three days after arriving home from a trip to Japan, my 18 yr old son started having severe abdominal pain. Over the next month, with four trips to the ER and no answers from the docs other than "accute inflammation in the small intestine" despite alllll the testing and antibiotics he was down 15 lbs, passing blood both ways and couldn't control the pain at all. Super scary. I was treating him myself with supplements like L Reuteri and mastic gum, but the game changer was BP 157. He had an endoscopy four days after his last trip to the. ER, after which I started him on the peptide, and it didn't show anything but healing areas. I'm not a doc, just a mom desperately trying anything to help my son, but that one turned my head for sure. The medical establishment was a near complete fail.

Hey Mary! Yep it sure is!! Amazing anecdote and good on you mom, seriously. They have zero idea how to address anything other than will pharma drugs and antibiotics. It amazes me how you can be a doctor and not be up on the research. The amount of research on SIBO and LPS is absurd, this was honestly one of the easiest articles I have ever written, simply because of all the available research (and personal experience). Thanks for sharing!

Forgot to ask, did they ever pin it to a specific bacteria, or just throw loads of antibiotics at him?

Btw we did far better with ChatGPT than with the doctors (and 2 of the ER visits were at Mayo!) What a sad and sorry state of affairs, but as much as AI freaks me out, I was pretty darned grateful for it.

Wow thats crazy! Yes that would make total sense with H Pylori. They are all opportunistic and take control as soon as they get an opening. Ha, AI can be a powerful tool especially as a research assistant with these things. I built an AI on my website for protocols like that (littlewaycoach.com).

Nope, no diagnosis, just nuclear quantities of antibiotic (which I think just tore it up more) many CT scans/ultrasound and every kind of pain med including opioids which barely touched the pain. Just kept sending him home. He would go to ER and need four bags of fluids. I thought that H Pylori made the most sense bc he obviously had ulceration and why in the heck would he have an ulcer, esp after to traveling to a country where it is prevalent? But they don't test for that in the hospital, so I just treated him as if he had it, figured it could only help not hurt. I still think that may have been it, the endoscopy tested negative for it but we may have already cleared it with the supplements.

Thank you so much for this article

Hey Linda, thanks for saying that! Took me a little to write, but was easily one of the most fun articles I have written. I had so many studies I had to reformat the article (to handle the length over email). Glad you liked it, hope it can be of some help!

Recognition of SIBO here in the UK is rather hit and miss. Many doctors have not even heard of it. Some gastroenterologists haven't either! Some don't use breath testing as they don't think they are accurate. Well it't known that there can be false positives and false negatives. We still have a long way to go here.

Your information is most helpful unfortunately I cannot take charcoal because I am on Coumadin for phospholipid syndrome ( APS ) Am on it for life! Can I still get good results without it?

Hey Susan, I sent you a DM!

Isnt Enterosgel a better binder?

Scott: Little Way Health Coach's avatar

I actually like Quicksilver Sci Ultra binder best. Enterosgel is silica, while Ultra binder has: Activated charcoal, Chitosan, Bentonite clay, Zeolite, and Silica

Ever tried Enterosgel, its supposed to spare vitamins for example.

You misspelled TTFD in the article.

Proteus vulgaris L reuteri

Will L reuteri also treat proteus vulgaris. My understanding is proteus is more difficult to treat even with the recommended Cipro which I won’t use.
